Questions Before You Call Savannah Garage Door Pros

Call Savannah Garage Door Pros at 6001 Chatham Center Dr. See what happens after you call, which jobs we take, and which ones we turn down.

Do you serve my neighborhood if I'm not right in Savannah proper?

Likely yes. We run out to about a 20-mile radius from our shop on Chatham Center Dr, which covers Garden City, Montgomery, Richmond Hill, Port Wentworth, Tybee Island, and the neighborhoods in between. Call and give us your area and we'll tell you straight whether it's in range.

How old does my house need to be before parts get hard to find?

Most homes in the service area were built from 1964 to 2011, with 1980s and 90s construction the most common. Doors from that era usually still have parts available. The ones that give us trouble are the oldest stock with original hardware nobody manufactures anymore - we'll tell you up front if that's what we're looking at.

Will cold weather actually damage my garage door here?

The climate here is mild with only occasional freezes, so it's not the hard stress that deep-winter climates put on doors. But a cold snap can still stiffen old grease and crack a nylon roller that was already brittle. It's rarely the cold itself - it's the cold finding a part that was already failing.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

Not accurately. We'll ask what the door is doing and the age of the house, which gets us close, but torsion springs, cables, and openers vary enough that we confirm the real number once we've looked at the door in person.

Contacting Us

Call (912) 206-4024 and you'll reach the shop, not a dispatch center reading from a script. Our address is 6001 Chatham Center Dr, Savannah, GA 31405, and that's where the trucks run out of each morning.

We work the Savannah area out to about a 20-mile radius, which covers Georgetown (3 mi), Garden City (5 mi), Montgomery (8 mi), Isle of Hope and Thunderbolt (9 mi each), Bloomingdale and Skidaway Island (10 mi), Richmond Hill, Whitemarsh Island, and Buckhead (11 mi), Port Wentworth (12 mi), Wilmington Island (13 mi), and out to Rincon, Midway, and Tybee Island at 19-20 miles. Closer in, we cover the Liberty City/Summerside/Southover/Richfield cluster, the/Sandfly area, both Historic Districts.

Tell us the make of your opener if you can see it, and whether the door is stuck open or stuck shut. That one detail changes what we load on the truck before we even leave the lot.

What Happens After You Call

  1. We ask a handful of questions

What the door is doing, how old the house is, and whether anyone's tried to force it open or closed. A lot of homes around here were built between 1964 and 2011, with the median landing close to 1990, so we're often guessing at torsion spring size and track width before we even see the door - the build year tells us more than the symptom does.

  2. We give you a window, not an exact minute, because the job ahead of yours sometimes runs long

When we get there, we diagnose the actual failure first - spring, cable, roller, opener board, or track alignment - rather than quoting a flat number before we've looked at it.

  3. Most of what we see is wear

A snapped torsion spring, a frayed cable, a roller that's worn its track groove wide. The mild climate here with occasional winter freezes isn't hard on doors the way deep cold or heavy humidity swings are elsewhere, but cold snaps still stiffen old lubricant and crack brittle nylon rollers that were already near the end of their life.

Work We Turn Down

We don't take on jobs where the door or frame has been structurally compromised beyond the hardware - if the wood jamb is rotted through or the opening itself has shifted, that's a carpentry or structural repair first, and we'll tell you that instead of bolting new hardware to a frame that won't hold it.

We also won't quote a repair sight unseen on a door we haven't inspected, especially on the older end of the local housing stock where original hardware and non-standard panel sizes are still common. Guessing a part number over the phone on a door like that wastes your money if it's wrong.

If a door is old enough and far enough gone that a repair would just mean replacing most of what's in the opening anyway, we'll say so rather than patch it piece by piece. That's not every call, but it's not rare either given how much of the local stock dates back to the 1980s and 90s.
